Intro
Buddhism is a religion that practices meditation. Buddhism has been around for 2,500 years. It is also the 4th largest religion in the world, more and more people join this religion everyday.
Founder
The founder of Buddhism, Siddharta Gautama. Siddharta founded Buddhism in 520BCE in Northeast India.
Followers & locations
Their are 360 million followers of Buddhism. For instance they are many people in these locations China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia. It is also the 4th largest world religion.
sacred text
Tripitaka, is the earliest in their teachings. This word means three baskets. Tripitaka Is also referred to as Pali canon.
Religious Holidays
The date of the holidays is based on the lunar calendar. First of all Buddhists New Year. Buddhist New Year is celebrated for 3 days from the first full moon in April. Vesak, Buddha's birthday is also celebrated by the them. Vesak is celebrated on the first full moon in May.
Rituals
Buddhism's main practice in rituals is Meditation. It helps enlighten their journey, and bring blessings on oneself and others.
Dress/clothing
Buddha’s monks dress in a humble robe. The Monk in this picture is dressed in a orange robe which some monks where in China. In different places in the world such as Korea, China, or Japan dresses in different colored robes and different type of clothes.
Hierarchy
The Buddha's spiritual leader is the Monk.
